1991 Jeep Wrangler For Auction This week

"Second generation (1987–1996)

The Jeep YJ, sold as the Wrangler, replaced the much-loved but slower-selling Jeep CJ in 1987. It was a new design with a longer wheelbase, less ground clearance, and more comfort, and some of its inspiration came from its stablemate, the Jeep Cherokee, rather than from its CJ predecessor alone (this prompted some Jeep purists to interpret the YJ as a "yuppie Jeep" upon the model's introduction). The YJ also had a leaf spring suspension similar to that of the CJ. 632,231 YJs were built through model year 1995. The YJ was replaced in 1996 by 1997's TJ. YJs are easily identifiable by their rectangular headlights.
The YJ used a 2.5 L AMC I4 or optional 4.2 L AMC I6 until 1991. That year, a fuel injected 180 hp (134 kW) 4.0 L variant replaced the 112 hp (84 kW) 4.2 L straight-6.
The roll cage was extended in 1992 to allow for rear shoulder belts, and anti-lock brakes were added as an option the next year. An automatic transmission option for 4-cylinder Wranglers came in 1994 along with a center high-mounted stop light.
On August 5, 1987, American Motors was bought by Chrysler, and the Jeep marque became a part of Chrysler's Jeep/Eagle division.

"The first jeep prototype (the Bantam BRC) was built for the Department of the Army by American Bantam in Butler, Pennsylvania, followed by two other competing prototypes produced by Ford and Willys-Overland. The American Bantam Car Company actually built and designed the vehicle that first met the Army's criteria, but its engine did not meet the Army's torque requirements. Plus, the Army felt that the company was too small to supply the number needed and it allowed Willys and Ford to make second attempts on their designs after seeing Bantam's vehicle in action. Some people believe that Ford and Willys also had access to Bantam's technical paperwork.
Quantities (1,500) of each of the three models were then extensively field tested. During the bidding process for 16,000 "jeeps," Willys-Overland offered the lowest bid and won the initial contract. Willys thus designed what would become the standardized jeep, designating it a model MB military vehicle and building it at their plant in Toledo, Ohio.
Like American Bantam, Willys-Overland was a small company and, likewise, the military was concerned about their ability to produce large quantities of jeeps. The military was also concerned that Willys-Overland had only one manufacturing facility: something that would make the supply of jeeps more susceptible to sabotage or production stoppages.
Based on these two concerns, the U.S. government required that jeeps also be built by the Ford Motor Company, who designated the vehicle as model GPW (G = governmental vehicle, P showed the wheelbase, and W = the Willys design). Willys and Ford, under the direction of Charles E. Sorensen (Vice-President of Ford during World War II), produced more than 600,000 jeeps. Besides just being a "truck" the jeep was used for many other purposes.
The jeep was widely copied around the world, including in France by Hotchkiss et Cie (after 1954, Hotchkiss manufactured Jeeps under licence from Willys). There were several versions created, including a railway jeep and an amphibious jeep. As part of the war effort, Jeeps were also supplied to the Soviet Red Army during World War II.During the jeep's service in Korea the name was referred to as "Just Enough Essential Parts" by the troops due to the very basic design.
In the United States military, the jeep has been supplanted by a number of vehicles (e.g. Ford's M151 MUTT) of which the latest is the High Mobility Multipurpose Wheeled Vehicle (HMMWV or "Humvee")." Wikipedia

The Wrangler (also known as the YJ and TJ, as explained below) is a mini SUV from Jeep, a division of DaimlerChrysler. It is a successor to the famous World War II GP vehicle by way of the 'Willy's' Jeep in the 1950s and later by the Jeep CJ series. The Wrangler YJ debuted in 1987, the TJ in 1997, and the JK in 2007.

Subaru of America executives created the Outback because the SUV craze had at that point reached a fevered pitch with customers demanding SUVs and shunning Subaru's station wagons (even when equipped with all wheel drive) based on image concerns, leaving dealers clamoring for a SUV-like product to sell.

In 2000, Outback became its own model and added a sedan, as well as an available horizontal six-cylinder engine.
In the highest trim level (VDC, for Vehicle Dynamics Control), a 200 W McIntosh stereo system was standard from 2001 to 2003. These were the only vehicles ever factory-equipped with McIntosh stereo equipment.

Reposessions on the rise

Repossessed cars have been coming into Interstate Auto Auction since we have been open.

With the recent struggles in the economy Interstate Auto Auction is seeing first hand a huge rise in repossessed cars.

The basic idea behind car repossession is that the car has been bought on a hire purchase or loan agreement. This means that the goods you have bought are not legally yours until payment for the goods has been settled in full. Once this has been achieved, you will be classed as the rightful owner of the goods.
If you fail to keep up the payments as stated in the agreement, then you can face repossession of the goods. If this happens, then a lender can take legal action against you for the money owed to him. Question 2 (What does passed mean?)

Simply put. Passed means the price offered during the auction is not high enough for the vehicle to sell.

Impotant note....
Remember! All cars that run Green light (as you know from the Question 1 post below) come with a gaurantee good motor and transmission. Hence a value is attached to them. If this value is not met and the company chooses not to sell the vehicle then the vehcile is passed on.

What happens to the car once it is passed?

The vehcile may go in the next Saturday or Wednesday auction or be brought to a Dealer Auction where the public cannot buy it.

Auction Questions (Question 1. Auction Systems?)

Most all auctions have a system in place to allow people to understand what quality of products/cars they are bidding on. Allot of auctions have multiple lanes running 3 to 10 cars simultaneously. As you can imagine for a rookie bidder this can be over whelming and very chaotic. In this system each lane will have names such as Lane A, Lane B , and Lane C. Each lane represents many different meanings. Most important being that the lane represents the overall quality of the car. For example, Lane A may indicate top of the line cars that need no work at all while Lane C would have cars that are a little rougher around the edges. This of course changes the value of the cars. For example, lets say that in Lane A and Lane C you see a Red 2002 Honda Accord. You see that both 2002 Honda's are identical in options, mileage and cleanliness, but the Lane A Honda sold for $3,000 more then the Honda in Lane C. This just simply means you get what you pay for. The Lane A Honda is a better car then the identical Lane C Honda that needs brakes, has AC that needs to be fixed, and a power window that no longer is working. The question you most ask yourself is it better to save $3,000 or not. It really is that easy to understand Auction Car Values. Know The system... 1. Are most valued Cars are GREEN LIGHT. These are the only cars that you will see online. Means that the vehicle's motor and transmission are in good working order. After delivery of your vehicle, Interstate Auto Auction will provide a 1 hour arbitration period for engine and transmission issues. Full refunds will be issued for valid arbitration claims.

2. YELLOW LIGHT: Yellow Light indicates that an important announcement regarding the vehicle is being made (ie: condition of vehicle or special title announcements).

3. RED LIGHT: Vehicle is being sold as-is. No warranty or guarantee on the vehicle. No refunds will be issued for any defects. We run all Cars Red light on site only!!!! We highly suggest to test drive all these cars from 9am-5pm so you know what you are getting!
