Interstate Auto Auction sells more cars than just about any other public Auction around! Nearly 60,000 in just 10 years is incredible and we have had many different reviews over the years.
Here is a 4 star review from Yelp by Prabin out of Newton MA
have been buying cars from here for about 3-4 years now and this place has definitely changed for the better. This place used to be a place where dealers would come and dump their crappiest car. The employees working here used to be some of the nastiest human beings on earth, and the worst of them all was the CUSTOMER SERVICE MANAGER, so yeah, what do you expect. I also believe that the way they were doing business has gotten them in a sh*t load of trouble, because I know that the Customer Service Manager is fired, some of the employees have been replaced and ALL of them are a HECK of a lot NICER than they used to be. Oh my god, its like they are humans again, like they suddenly have manners again and are polite and helpful again. Wow, how did this happen!!!
Now, that being said, don't forget this is an Auto Auction. There are two categories of vehicles that are available to purchase, RED and GREEN light vehicles. I have never purchased a RED light vehicle here so I cant say anything about them, but even if you are purchasing a GREEN light vehicle, Keep around $500 in reserve for repairs towards the car you are purchasing, Make sure you go upto the vehicle and walk around the vehicle and check for body damage, do a quick visual inspection of the inside of the vehicle, Check for any warning lights that might be on on the dash, Check Engine or Service Engine Soon, ABS, AIRBAG, are some very important lights and repairs could be costly. I would always keep a reserve $$ for repairs.
Also understand that this is an auction, not a used car dealership. There are many cars that go through the lanes, and unlike a dealership, here at the auction, its you the buyer who inspects the vehicle. Dealers that are selling vehicles here will bring cr*pping cars and will try to pass them to you, the reason is simple, if you buy a vehicle from a dealership that vehicle has to pass inspection or you have full right to receive your money back, but not when you buy at auction. Therefore, your personal inspection is VERY IMPORTANT, you could end up with a great car but you could also end up with a lemon and if youre not careful, you will be stuck with it.
Auctions are fun, fun to participate, prices are lower but as a buyer be very careful because at auctions, you are also taking a risk. Like I said, if you are careful, you can end up with a gem at a very good price, or if you are careless, you can end up with a very expensive lemon. Auctions are not for everyone, this is not a place where you simply sit down and raise your hand to bid, there is a lot more to do at the auction than that. If you are not mechanically inclined, I would strongly advise you to stay away from any Auction and just goto a Used Car Dealership. At least you will have some warranty and the vehicle must pass inspection. Used Car Dealers have a lot of obligations towards its customers, Auctions have pretty much none.
With that, I hope you all make the right choice. Good luck on your next vehicle purchase.
